If you’ve been following along on our Instagram feeds and Stories, you’ll maybe have noticed that Sam and I have been on the road quite a bit lately. We recently wrapped up a really exciting Fall campaign with Uptown Shopping Centre in Victoria and before that we explored Seattle and the Lodges on Vashon. With all these trips, Sam and I are trying to be extra-conscientious about our eating/drinking habits. We decided to come up with a list of healthy road trip snacks that we thought we’d share with you.
Whether you’re headed somewhere tropical by plane, you spend a lot of time commuting by public transit, or you’re just in your car A LOT (shout-out to all the parent chauffeurs out there 😉 ), having something on hand that is healthy to snack on and keep your energy up is a necessity. I am too familiar with that mid-afternoon blood-sugar crash and have learned that fuelling my body with healthier options is the way to go.
Without further ado, here are our suggestions for curbing those road trip cravings, while not over-indulging and feeling… well, gross. Stock up on these healthy road trip snacks the next time you’re hitting the open road (or the airport).
I’m not sure if I’m more obsessed with RISE Kombucha or if my kids are. All I know is that ever since we all first tried it, we’ve been hooked! I don’t give my girls pop or even much juice, so to treat them with their favourite Rise flavour (Hibiscus and Rose Hips, for all those wondering) is something I am happy to do. Kombucha has so many health benefits as well as being a deliciously refreshing beverage. Grab a RISE instead of a soda and you’ll feel so much better for it!
Who doesn’t love a good ol’ bag of mixed up goodness? That was my first experience with Naked Snacks. It was like trail mix heaven because it was none of the typical overly-salty trail mix ‘stuff’. Instead, every bite was a flavour explosion. Naked Snacks is a unique concept where you get monthly deliveries of yummy snacks of your choosing. They have so many options to choose from and you can mix and match to get some sweet and salty. My kids ask for the ‘cupcake almonds’ all the time which is what they call the Maple Praline Almonds. They taste like dessert. You have been warned! 😉
These little gummies are just a straight-up anomaly to me. You FEEL like you’re eating 5 cent candies from the corner store but when you’re eating Smart Sweets, you’re ACTUALLY eating your daily required intake of FIBRE. What the? I know you don’t believe me that these can taste so good and be so good FOR YOU, so you’re going to have to try them yourself. I double dog dare you not to eat the entire pack.
Sam introduced Cocomels to me and I had never had them until recently. Oh my gosh- they are goooood. These yummy coconut flavoured caramels are vegan, dairy-free, non-GMO, certified organic and DELICIOUS! They are totted as being ‘healthier than average candy’ and are a great option for anyone living a plant-based lifestyle. Or anyone who likes coconut… or chocolate… or vanilla… or things that taste amazing.
Every road trip needs chips. But we also want to eat healthier snack options so, we choose healthier chips :). There are so many great brands out there but some of our favourites are Hardbite and Terra vegetable chips. No road trip is complete without chips.

It was both of our first time trying the AdvoCare Spark Energy Drink and we were pleasantly surprised at how amazing it tasted. One thing we always joke about when we are away on work trips is that we are kind of in a constant state of exhaustion so Spark was exactly what we needed.
The AdvoCare Spark Energy Drink is in powder form which means all you need to do is add it to your bottle of water for a boost when you need it most. I have never been a fan of the mainstream energy drinks on the market as they seem to make my heart race and they’re usually FULL of sugar. Like, more sugar than anyone should have.
Spark® is a unique blend of vitamins and minerals combined with other ingredients to provide a healthy and balanced source of energy. Spark contains an effective amount of caffeine to give you a quick boost, B vitamins to support your body’s natural ability to produce its own energy, and amino acids involved in protein synthesis.
This was the perfect way to round off our collection of healthy road trip snacks in a way that we could feel good about what we were putting in our bodies.
The AdvoCare energy drink also comes in the form of Spark® Stick Packs which you can throw in a carry-on or a purse. It really couldn’t get any more convenient and convenience is my love language! 🙂
