It takes a village. Not just to raise kids, but also to run a business, to train for a marathon and, for many of us, to keep ourselves up and running. I get asked often about the various members of my health and beauty team, so I thought I would introduce you to the people/services that keep me going!
Being a blogger is such an interesting job, as a different hat is worn in any given situation. Sometimes, I am at home working, other times my photo is being taken for a client photoshoot, and then other times yet I am attending events around Vancouver. That’s one of the reasons I love my career so much. The variety keeps me on my toes and keeps things interesting. Then, I throw on about 10 other hats when it comes to raising my two amazing daughters, being in a wonderful relationship, spending time with my beautiful mom, trying to have a social life with friends, etc. You know the drill 😉
In order to stay feeling good from the inside out, a lot goes into my health and beauty regime. It is important to me that I take care of everything from head to toe, from the highlights in my hair to the feet that I stand on (for sometimes too many hours at a time).
So, who is my part of my trusted team? Let’s start from the inside and work our way out…
Restoration Health
The Naturopathic team at Restoration Health came into my life at the most crucial time and they helped me in a way that I will never forget. If you’ve been following me for a little while, you’ll maybe know that my dad passed away just over a year ago and also that I went through a divorce about 2.5 years ago.
I’m very in-tune with my body and my emotions and it seemed I was fine with all the drastic change in my life… until I was NOT fine at all. I had been having anxiety attacks around the time my ex-husband and I separated but a year and a half later, I had an anxiety attack that lasted so long, and it was so physically debilitating, that I almost took myself to the hospital at 4am after having not fallen asleep yet that night. Instead, I sent a DM over Instagram to my naturopath, Dr. Durnan, and told her I felt like I was at wits end. I felt like my anxiety had hit its max and I needed HELP. She told me to come in right away to the clinic and another member of the Restoration Health team would treat me ASAP.
As I lay with tiny needles in my wrists, feet and head, for the first time in 14 hours I felt my heart rate slowing down, the thudding in my ears quieting and my body warming up from what felt like a state of frozen. I could feel literal waves of calm washing over my body. I felt it in my skin, my muscles and my mind. It was like a frikken miracle. I had never had acupuncture before and, if I’m being honest, always kind of thought it was some sort of ‘hippy’ treatment, but did it EVER work. It’s the very first thing I suggest to anyone who tells me they’re experiencing anxiety, because I swear by it. I actually joke with my boyfriend that I worry it made me “too chill” because, almost a full year later, I can still feel the change in me from that session. I am eternally indebted to the team at Restoration Health.
Anxiety is not something to be taken lightly. If you are experiencing any feelings that feel ‘off’ to you, please please speak with a doctor. You don’t need to feel that way and there ARE solutions. xo
Hairology Salon and Spa
I am not someone who is crazy picky about their hair, but when it looks great, I feel great. Regular hair appointments are something I have always made a priority in my life, from early on. Some people go for regular massages or nail appointments… I get my roots touched up ;). Having a stylist that gets you, is step number one in the hair journey. For me, that’s Diana at Hairology.
My stylist knows that I am open to new ideas and she even convinced me to chop off quite a bit of my ratty ends in our last appointment. Knowing that I am always ready for an event or photoshoot because my hair feels 👌🏼while also knowing that it’s low-maintenance enough to throw in a top knot to have more time to play with my girls… it’s all really key for the lifestyle I lead. If you’re in the market for a great new do, I can’t recommend Hairology Salon and Spa enough!
Beauty Lash and Brow
Jaimee, of Beauty Lash and Brow, is a perfectionist in the best way! When it comes to details as tiny as eyebrows and eyelashes, perfectionism is what you want, believe me! I have had my eyebrows microbladed by Jaimee and I also see her for lash extensions before sunny holidays so that I am forever pool and ocean ready. She is the best!
Pacific Derm
I first started going to Pacific Derm with the intention of tackling my adult acne. It was bad and it had been too long that I *hated* my skin. I would get those big, painful, cyst-like pimples and the texture of my skin was tiny bumps all over. I NEVER left the house without makeup on. It was a huge insecurity for me- even still at age 35. I had always been in awe of people with flawless skin and I decided it was time to clear mine up.
Dr. Kuritzky is a childhood friend of mine and, when we reconnected a few years ago, we decided we’d tackle my skin journey together, thus my introduction to Pacific Derm. And thank goodness for that intro!!! Not only has my skin totally improved, I now only get the random pimple around my time of the month and it goes away almost immediately. I feel like a new person. You can read about what I did to clear up my skin HERE.
Once we had my breakouts under control, Dr. Kuritzky and I started looking into other preventative treatments to keep my complexion looking fresh and healthy. This is when I took the plunge and had Botox done for the first time.
I never knew the big fuss about Botox, but now that I have had it done a couple of times, I can safely say that it is a game-changer for the overall look of your skin. I’m not going for the ‘forever-young’ look. I’m just going for the ‘NOT prematurely old looking’ look which is what I felt was going on with my skin especially on my forehead. I had deep deep lines and way too many lines in general for a 35 year old forehead. Go have a look at this post to see for yourself! Going into my consult meeting with Dr. Kuritzky, I emphasized the fact that I wanted the treatment to look as natural as possible and that’s exactly what I got.
The thing I love most about Pacific Derm, other than my clear and less-wrinkly skin that is, is how attentive the whole team is there. You’re welcomed warmly when you arrive and the kindness and professionalism carries on from there.
As I mentioned at the beginning of the post, it takes a village and I am so grateful that I have found ‘my people’!
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you would like any more insight into any of my health and beauty team, as I am happy to answer any questions!
I hope you feel great from the inside out… today, and every day!
